A new type of browser-formed cross-platform malware can provide hackers direct access to computers operating on Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) OS X, Microsoft’s Windows, and also Linux.
The multi-platform backdoor malware was revealed this week by security company F-Secure. It was at first revealed on a Colombian Transport website, and depends on social engineering to trap users into operating a Java Archive file, which means it is not expected to be a huge risk.
Though its cross-platform kind is exceptional. If users give green signal to the Java Archive the malware would furtively determine whether the user is working over a Mac, a Windows PC, or a Linux machine. When running on Apple’s Mac, the malware would remotely link to an IP address from port 8080 to get further code to effect.
