Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) and book publishers that have not settled e-book price-fixing charges will face a June 3 inquiry in a case filed by the United States Justice Department, as decided by a federal judge in New York.

The United States joined 15 states and Puerto Rico in declaring Apple, CBS Corporation’s (NYSE:CBS) Simon & Schuster, Lagardère SCA’s Hachette Book Group, News Corp’s (NASDAQ:NWSA) HarperCollins, Macmillan and Penguin colluded to settle prices of e-books. United States District Judge Denise Cote set the inquiry date on Friday.

Cote reported as she set the nonjury inquiry with iPhone and iPad maker and other defendants that have not settled several parties, Apple and DOJ were pushing for a quick trial as quick as can be accomplished that was reliable with justice.
