Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A) reported that its 2Q profits declined 9 percent courtesy to larger paper declines on derivatives the firm sold, but most of its subsidiaries fared well.
The firm announced that profits were higher in Berkshire’s insurance divisions. And business enhanced at the conglomerate’s utility, railroad, production and retail segments.
In its operating profit Berkshire announced a 37 percent hike. Berkshire posted a $3.7 billion in operating earnings, or $1.50 for Class B share which was higher from $2.7 billion or $1.09 for each Class B share in a year ago period.
Berkshire posted a $693 million decline on its derivative contracts in this year’s 2Q. That’s higher from a $120 million decline last year.
Its competitors include The Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE:BX) which has market capitalization of 17.11 billion with 1.23 billion outstanding shares.

(NYSE:MTG) with 202.03 million and Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) with market capitalization of 5.28 billion.
