BHP Billiton Limited (ADR) (NYSE:BHP) reported on Thursday that it is mulling over sell of its Gregory crinum coking coal operations in Australia’s Queensland state, after ending one of the mines at the site previous year because of falling commodity prices and high operating outlays.

A spokesman reported in an emailed statement that the Melbourne, Victoria based mining company is also investigating ways in which it can keep the mining complex and more broaden its mine life.

The BHP spokesman announced that the alliance close up the Gregory open pit at the operation previous year, but the Crinum underground mine has remained open and remains profitable and viable, despite weak coal prices.
