Broadband Customers Boost Comcast Earnings; Net Tops Predictions – DTV, DISH, CHRS, AEO, CBS, WAG, MPEL, RSH

Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA), the biggest US cable company, surpassed profit and sales forecasts in the Q1 following gains in broadband customers helped lessen the 20th straight loss in video subscribers.

Net income increased 30% to $1.22 billion, or 45 cents per share, against $943 million, or 34 cents, a year previously, the Philadelphia-based company stated today in a statement. Analysts had anticipated 42 cents.

Comcast signed up 439,000 broadband subscribers in the quarter, beating the 382,000 average forecast of 11 analysts’ predictions compiled by Bloomberg. The cable provider, facing opposition from phone firms and Netflix Inc., lost 37,000 video clients. At least two analysts projected the first rise in cable-TV subscribers since 2007.

Its competitors include DIRECTV (NASDAQ:DTV) that surged 0.22% to $49.58 with the total traded volume of 1.02 million shares and DISH Network Corp. (NASDAQ:DISH) that moved up 0.16% to $32.03 with the total traded volume of 811,710.00 shares.
