The Financial Times posted on Sunday on its website without mentioning its sources that BT Group plc (ADR) (NYSE:BT) is in discussion to acquire over sports broadcaster ESPN’s football rights, which cover few matches from the German Bundesliga, the Europa League and the English FA Cup.
The report further confirmed that ESPN, majority owned by The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), is mulling over an exit from the United Kingdom, while U.K. telecommunications operator BT has plans to roll out around 3 channels to broadcast football, rugby and other sports content it has previously bought at an amount of around 1 billion pounds or $1.6 billion.
Financial Times also added that British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC is also concerned about ESPN’s football rights.
