Citigroup (NYSE:C) Chief Vikram Pandit Says U.S. Regulators Should Avoid Product Control – C, MS, JPM, BBD

Chief Executive Officer of the New York- based Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C) Vikram Pandit reported that regulators should not order what banks can sell to customers as such controls risk undermining financial stability and have no clear economic advantage.

Ex- Citigroup Chairman Sanford “Sandy” Weill reported previous month that banks should be broken up, separating investment banking from lending and deposit-taking. United States supervisory body is also working to complete controls that comprise a ban on proprietary trading by banks.

Pandit reported while speaking on the Australian Broadcasting Corp that he supports the idea of the Volcker rule. However, he reported dividing Citigroup in the manner suggested by Weill would be an artificial separation and the third-biggest U.S. bank must continue to lend in addition to tap capital markets for clients.
