The New York-based Portales analyst Peabody stated that the Mexican peso and the Brazilian real were among currencies that have weakened, which could direct to value destruction for Citigroup. The financial company disputed Peabody’s conclusion in an e-mailed statement.
The New York-based Citigroup relies on developing nations for over 50% of its profit as CEO Vikram Pandit pushes deeper into regions like Latin America and Asia. Pandit told shareholders in a March 9 that the financial company has an intense focus on capturing emerging-market trade.
