Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) Declares Bill Johnson Quits as CEO; James Rogers Serves as CEO and Chairman – DUK, SO, PPL, AEP

Duke Energy Corp (NYSE:DUK) reported that Bill Johnson was not take over as chief executive officer as intended after its $17.8 billion takeover of Progress Energy, Inc (NYSE:PGN). In its place, James Rogers will continue as chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the combined corporations.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based utility owner reported in a statement on Wednesday that Progress’s Chief Executive Officer Johnson quitted after the agreement announced on Tuesday,.

Duke reported that the Progress takeover in January 2011 and announced that Rogers would become executive chairman of the corporation with Johnson serving as president and Chief Executive Officer. That aim was scrapped under a mutual deal between Johnson and the corporation. Duke refused to remark further on the shift.
