Durata lead Wire Hurt Due to External Abrasion; Says St. Jude Medical (NYSE:STJ) – STJ, MDT, BSX, EW

The St. Paul, Minnesota-based St. Jude Medical, Inc (NYSE:STJ) reported on Friday that it’s Durata, a wire used to fix life-saving defibrillators to the heart, was damaged in a way that is different from what prompted a recall for an older gadget.

St. Jude Medical reported on Friday in a statement that St. Jude’s analysis of the wire, named as a lead, demonstrates it was damaged from an external abrasion, not an inside-out abrasion that had been seen in its recalled Riata leads.

St. Jude reported in the statement that the damage to the Durata lead was dependable with external abrasion from contact with a calcified heart valve or probably from lead-to-lead contact.
