On Wednesday,General Motors Co (NYSE:GM) and its Chinese JVassociates reported that they intend to construct a $1 billion auto assembly facility in the city of Chongqing as an element of its push to stay as the leader in the world’s biggest auto market.

GM, SAIC Motor Corp and Wuling Motors Holdings Ltd stated that they would start building the plant in the start of next year pending appropriate Chinese government consents. The 6.6 billion Chinese yuan ($1.06 billion) initial phase is slated to start in 2015.

Its competitors include Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) that slipped -0.54% to $11.04 with the total traded volume of 6.68 million shares and Toyota Motor Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:TM) that dropped -1.00% to $84.39 with the total traded volume of 129,611.00 shares.
