Google takes next step to rival Groupon

Google has taken its next step in its battle for competition on the daily deals front against Groupon today.

The Search engine giant has bought Dealmap which offers discount offers from local merchants to its subscriber list. The company is only 15 month old with 2 million users.

The financial aspects of the deal have not been disclosed.

Google has been desperate of late to join one of the internets fastest growing markets. Recently it started its own version of collective buying called Google Offers but it faces a mountain in order to catch up with the subscriber base that Groupon and LivingSocial have been able to accumulate.
