Healthcare Sector Ends Slightly Higher; Cell Therapeutics (CTIC) Plans to Sell $60 Million in Preferred Stocks while UnitedHealth (UNH) Looking to Acquire Amil Participacoes – CTIC, UNH, JNJ, XNPT, DCTH, MDCO

Investors reacted positively to the healthcare stocks on last trading session of the week. Major movement was seen in XenoPort, Inc (NASDAQ:XNPT) and Delcath Systems, Inc (NASDAQ:DCTH) on gainers side while The Medicines Company (NASDAQ:MDCO) was prominent stock on the losers side.

Cell Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CTIC) reported on Friday that it aims to vend $60 million in preferred stock to boost money for the launch of its lymphoma drug Pixuvri and to fund studies of its medicine pacritinib.

Shares of the company moved down to record low after the report. Cell Therapeutics reported that it will sell preferred stock for $1,000 a share. Every preferred share can be converted into 714 shares of stock with an exchange price of $1.40 a share.

Cell Therapeutics Inc’s YTD performance was recorded as -73.59% while its market capitalization was $17.36 million. Institutional ownership owns 12.49% shares of the company while beta factor, which is used to measure riskiness of the security, was 5.32.

The Minnetonka, Minnesota-based UnitedHealth Group Inc (NYSE:UNH), the largest United States health insurance corporation, is in talks to fully acquire Brazilian insurer and hospital operator Amil Participacoes or purchase a stake, as said by a person with knowledge about the issue.

Purchasing fully or partly Brazil’s largest managed-care corporation would give UnitedHealth access to a rising private-insurance market in the world’s second-biggest emerging economy.

UnitedHealth Group Inc. has market capitalization of $59.00 billion. Its debt to equity was 0.43 while its shares were looking forward SMA50 with 6.16. The company offered earnings per share of 4.93 while its 1.03 billion shares were outstanding. YTD performance of the stock was 13.94%.

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) has the market capitalization of $191.58 billion. The company’s EPS was 3.14 while its 2.76 billion shares were outstanding. Its institutional ownership was 67.07%. Shares of the company were moving ahead of SMA50 with 2.20% while its YTD performance was 9.17%.
