On Monday, software giant, Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) launched the first ever tablet pc it has ever created, coded as the Surface that is equipped with a keyboard and other characteristics made to outscore other rivals in a market captivated by most expensive firm of US, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)
Surface, unveiled by Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer at an occasion for journalists, is an indication of the new policies the software leader has been compelled to hold as it plans to gain some of the lost ground in the mobile segment.
Newly launched tablet has an attached kickstand and magnetic cover, which also works as a touch keyboard. Microsoft did not mention whether the gadget would link to cellular data networks or would be Wi-Fi solely.
The Surface would given same price tag which its comparable tablets have, Windows Chief Steve Sinofsky commented. Microsoft would market the tablets personally at Microsoft’s various retail stores and also from few online sources.
Its competitors include Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) that surged 0.03% to $585.95 with the total traded volume of 5.81 million shares and Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:ORCL) that moved up 3.10% to $27.96 with the total traded volume of 40.06 million shares.
Other technology stocks with bullish trend include Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) up 1.20% to $2.54, Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:NWK) up 11.86% to $1.32 and Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) up 2.78% to $6.11, whereas with bearish trend include Frontier Communications Corp (NASDAQ:FTR) down -0.52% to $3.85, Affymetrix, Inc. (NASDAQ:AFFX) down -3.53% to $5.20 and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) down -0.39% to $43.65.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) surged 3.75% or +$1.12 to trading at $30.96 at 11:25AM EDT following it hit intra day high level of $31.11. The total traded volume in the current trading session is 34.94 million shares as compared to average 46.55 million shares. Its fifty two week trading range is $23.79 – $32.95. The total market capitalization reached $260.15 billion.
The stock price was ahead its 52 week low price with 33.15% and it lagged behind -5.22% from its 52 week maximum mark. Stock price volatility for last month remained 1.83%. In its share capital, the company has 8.40 billion outstanding shares out of which 7.56 billion shares have been floated in the market. For now, stock ownership with company’s management remained 5.76%.
