Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Gets $731 Million Fine by EU Watchdogs for Violating Browser Pact Conditions – MSFT, IBM, ORCL, RHT

The Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was fined 561 million Euros or $731 million by European Union watchdogs for violating the provisions of a deal to offer users a choice of web browsers aside from its Internet Explorer.

Fine by EU regulators, almost 1% of the world’s biggest software maker’s 2012 revenues, brings to 2.24 billion Euros the penalties imposed on Microsoft in its EU antitrust clashes over the previous decade, comprising an initial 899 million-euro fine for failing to comply with a verdict to share data with rivals.

In 2009, Microsoft agreed to offer access to other browsers as a part of a deal to repair its relationship with the bloc’s watchdogs.
