Nokia (NYSE:NOK) Decides to Sell Qt App-Tools Unit amid Boosting Reliance on Microsoft (MSFT) – NOK, RIMM, ALU, ERIC

The Espoo, Finland-based Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK), the Smartphone manufacturer that started using Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) OS to revive its unit, decided to sell its Qt app-tools business to Digia Oyj as it discards home-grown software attempts.

Nokia purchased the Qt technology in 2008 to offer developers tools to write applications for Symbian and MeeGo gadgets, 2 operating systems it’s since cast aside in favor of world’s biggest software maker’s Windows Phone. Around 125 workers will move to Digia as element of the agreement, as said in the statement by the Finnish software manufacturer on Thursday. Terms of the deal was not disclosed.

The disposal highlights Nokia’s higher reliance on Microsoft as it tries to stop dropping sales amid rivalry from Apple Inc’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) gadgets and devices operating on Google Inc’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Operating System.
