Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) Lipitor Exclusivity Loss Results in Sluggish Sales, Plans Stock Repurchase – PFE, SNY, MRK, BMY, JNJ, BSX, ARNA, ABMD, VVUS

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE)reported on Thursday that its third-quarter profit plunged 14% to $3.2 billion, or 43 cents per share, as compared to $3.74 billion, or 48 cents per share, in the last year same quarter.

Revised profit declined to 53 cents per share from 60 cents per share. Sales plunged 16% to just below $14 billion.

Pfizer referred the loss of exclusivity for its cholesterol drug Lipitor as a main cause of its sluggish sales.

Wall Street experts predicted Pfizer to earn 52 cents per share on sales of $14.7 billion, as per reported by a FactSetpoll.

Pfizer hold plans to repurchase almost $10 billion in stock following it ends the sale of its Nutrition business to Nestle in the coming few months.

Its competitors include Sanofi SA (ADR) (NYSE:SNY) that surged +2.46% to $44.93 with the total traded volume of 990,066.00 shares and Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) that surged +1.21% to $46.18 with the total traded volume of 10.67 million shares.

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) dropped -1.37% or -$0.34 to trading at $24.53 following it hit intra day high level of $24.82.
