The manufacturer of Marlboro and L&M cigarettes announced lower sales through zones as sluggish currency fluctuations hammered the top line by $731 million. Omitting the currency distresses and takeover costs, net sales would have increased by 3.4%, as superior prices compensated volume drops.
Revised earnings were short of Wall Street’s predictions for the initial time in two years. Shares declined 2.6% to $89.50 in recent early trading hours.
