The Walldorf, Germany-based SAP AG (ADR) (NYSE:SAP) announced software license revenue in the second-quarter surpassed analysts’ forecasts, sending the shares almost 9% higher.
SAP, the biggest producer of business-management software, reported on Thursday that sales of new software licenses, a measure of future revenue, moved up 19% to 1.06 billion euros or $1.3 billion without currency swings. Analysts had forecasted 977 million euros in sales. The software maker had anticipated growth of 15% to 20%.
Revenue was climbed by latest products comprising the rapid database software Hana, applications for mobile gadgets and programs that can be accessed online.
Co-Chief Executives Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe boosted the rate of purchases in the three months period, adding Ariba, Inc (NASDAQ:ARBA) for $4.3 billion to boost SAP’s position in Web-based software and supply-chain claims and get ahead of archrival Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:ORCL).
