Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) Inks $100 Million Deal to Acquire Bay Bread – SBUX, PEET, GMCR, DNKN

The Seattle-based Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) decided to acquire Bay Bread LLC in a $100 million cash deal, making its biggest acquisition to further develop its offering of food with pastries and sandwiches.

The world’s biggest coffee-shop operator Starbucks reported in a statement on Tuesday that the acquisition of San Francisco-based Bay Bread and its La Boulange brand would cut full-year profit by 2 cents per share. The company reported on its website that the French-themed bakery sells homemade granola, flank steak sandwiches and organic bread.

Chief Executive Officer Howard Schultz stated during a conference call that they were intensely committed to building a national brand with bakery items.
