BioDelivery Sciences International (NASDAQ:BDSI) soared by more than 16.5 percent on Thursday after it was announced that the company will receive $15 million in milestone payments from Endo Pharmaceuticals after receiving a patent allowance from the U.S. patent and Trademark Office for the delivery technology for the pain drug BEMA Buprenorphine. The allowance will extend the exclusivity on the technology from 2020 to 2027. The news led to a rally in the company’s stock price to a close of $2.33 per share.
Advance America (NYSE:AEA) jumped 31.9 percent higher on Thursday after it was announced that Mexican company Grupo Elektra would buy the money lender to $656 million. The deal represents $10.50 per share for Advance America which is a 33 percent premium on the company’s closing price on Wednesday. Grupo Elektra is owned by Billionaire television mogul Ricardo Salinas. Advance America closed at $10.44 on Thursday.
Expeditors International (NASDAQ:EXPD) rose by more than 5.1 percent today after the company received an upgrade by analysts at Jefferies. The firm raised its rating on the air delivery and freight services company to ‘Buy’ from ‘Hold’ which helped push the stock significantly higher during Thursday’s session before closing at $44.68 per share.
