Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE:TSM) Stock Hikes after United Microelectronics Expects Loss – TSM, UMC, SMI, TSEM

Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. Co Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:TSM) moved up to record high in Taipei trading session after a smaller competitor estimate an operating loss, indication the world’s biggest custom chip manufacturer is lifting its technology advantage.

Taiwan Semiconductor stock moved up 3.3% to settle at NT$108.50 and marked the record high level since it started trading in 1994.

Taiwan’s benchmark Taiex index moved up 0.4%. Trading resumed on Monday after halting February 6 for the Lunar New Year break.

The Hsinchu, Taiwan-based chipmaker reported on Feb 6 that United Microelectronics may post an operating loss of almost NT$1 billion or $34 million current quarter with the introduction of more advanced production technology being slower than forecasted.
