Telefonica (NYSE:TEF) Bids to Claw Back Control from Google (GOOG) in Latin America – TEF, VIV, BT, AMX

Telefonica SA (ADR) (NYSE:TEF), the former Spanish phone monopoly reeling from plummeting sales at home, is plotting to claw back control from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) in Latin America.

Telefonica is planning a phone software system that is freely available to network operators and makers, close to Google’s Android, the world’s major platform. Current week, 6 additional companies, comprising Germany’s Deutsche Telekom AG and Sprint Nextel Corp, reported that they would use the platform in other countries, like Poland.
