Telefonica (NYSE:TEF) Mulling Over Latin America Share Sales – TEF, VIV, BT, AMX

Telefonica SA (ADR) (NYSE:TEF), Spain’s largest phone operator, is looking for ways to vend shares in its entire Latin America unit to lift money and lower debt, according to a person with knowledge about the matter.

The people, who refused to be identified as the plans are not public, stated that one option was to create a regional holding without Telefonica Brasil SA and list it in the United States.

Chief Executive Officer Cesar Alierta is turning to some of the most valuable business to boost cash after spending $85 billion on purchases since taking over in 2000. Telefonica announced previous month to sell 50% of its stake in China Unicom. Telefonica in May reported a plan to vend shares in its German and Latin American phone businesses.
