The high expenses of subsidizing the iPhone is causing Verizon Communications Inc.(NYSE:VZ) to drive for smartphones powered by Microsoft Corp’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows software.
According to The Wall Street Journal, carriers give about $400 to subsidize each iPhone so that the cost would not be out of reach for consumers, but that expenses reduces into the carriers’ margins and is a concern for analysts.
Verizon, which has wide DFW operations, was excluded from iPhones until previous year and it had developed an extensive line of phones powered by Google Inc.’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android system. Now firm executives believe it is important to develop a second alternative to the iPhone.
