Whole Foods Market, Inc (NASDAQ:WFM) has awarded a special dividend of $2 a share, an action that many corporation are taking head off impending tax boosts and government spending lowers at the beginning of 2013.

Whole Foods Market reported on Thursday that the natural grocery store chain will pay a special dividend of $2 per share, joining other corporation who are attempting to get ahead of possible tax boosts starting coming year.

The special dividend would cost Whole Foods around $372 million with around 186 million shares outstanding.

The Austin-based Whole Foods Market reported that the special dividend will be paid on Dec 21 to shareholders of book on Dec 10.
