Job Description : The Assistant Director of Financial Aid, Diversity & Outreach reports to the Director of Undergraduate Financial Aid and serves as the primary liaison to a targeted cohort of students each year in order to identify and help students overcome access barriers to financial aid and other financial-related services while creating and implementing a robust outreach program to address the needs of in office, on-campus, and off-campus partners.

Responsibilities
Serve as a primary liaison to a targeted cohort of students each year to identify and help students overcome barriers to receiving financial aid and accessing financial services across campus.

Partner with the Director of First Generation programs, Promising Futures, Business Office, Dean of Student’s Office, and campus social workers to identify at-risk and high-need students to provide additional high-contact support and outreach.

Create materials and a contact schedule that allow for increased outreach to targeted cohort of students to shepherd them through the financial aid process.

Actively monitor students’ SAP to identify issues before they arise; assist students with the SAP appeal process.

Organize and formalize California Dream Act process and student outreach efforts within the Financial Aid Office.

Research and resolve highly complex problems.

Provide policy interpretation and review and decide exception requests as deemed appropriate for the position level

Participate in setting goals and objectives for area and measure performance against objectives. Evaluate internal practices, procedures and policies and recommend changes or enhancements

Promote positive image of the Financial Aid Office and ensure that accurate, consistent and timely financial aid information is disseminated in accordance with policies and procedures, as well as achieving institutional enrollment goals

Maintain professional currency through active participation and leadership in associations and committees both internal and external to the university focusing both on financial aid administration as well as diversity, inclusion, and first-generation issues.

Provide consistent data and analysis related to the effectiveness of the work being done to identify trends, successes, and areas of improvement.

Directly supervise 1-2 student workers dedicated to assisting with the goals of this position and focusing on diversity and first-generation issues.

Act as the central point of contact for outreach efforts within the office for both on- and off-campus outreach

Assist in the creation of outreach materials including presentations for financial aid nights, orientation, and special requests on campus.

Work with campus partners to identify areas of need with regard to financial aid and financial literacy

Present as needed for on-campus and off-campus partners.

Create and implement a training program within the Financial Aid office incorporating implicit bias and diversity issues in financial aid

Provide awarding support, monitoring, and analysis for “full tuition” and special programs

With the Director and Vice President, and others, create solid and consistent policies when new special programs are brought on board

Act as the point of contact in the Financial Aid Office for issues with special programs

Perform other duties as assigned or requested

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business or the equivalent training and experience

A minimum of 4 years financial aid administration experience with strong current knowledge of federal and state programs as well as diversity and equity initiatives

Strong public speaking skills and the ability to create presentation and outreach materials to various targeted audiences both on and off-campus

Proven ability to communicate clearly and accurately with campus partners, students, and their families

Familiarity with the California Dream Act including the processing of grants and outreach to eligible students

Strong interpersonal skill and sensitivity to listen, remain calm, and appreciate students and parents from diverse backgrounds

Strong organizational skills to prioritize projects and deadlines

Strong analytical skills to research information and resolve complex problems, as well as assess processes and provide recommendations for improvement

Computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications

Technical skills to learn and use enterprise and job-related systems and tools

Develop and implement a training program that is designed to engage and educate the staff and student workers in matters of diversity, equity and implicit bias as they relate to financial aid administration

Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality and strict adherence to FERPA

Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions and sound judgments on routine to critical matters

Ability to maintain and present data in a clear and concise manner

Ability to work independently and be a team player when needed

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred

Financial aid administration experience in a private non-profit institution

NASFAA professional credentials

Bilingual Spanish
