Job Description : Overview:
Responsible for the oversight of assigned segment on going monitoring and related processes for the Bank’s largest commercial loans (all relationships in excess of $3 million).
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead team that partners proactively with the sales and underwriting teams to prepare thoughtful risk assessment of customers on an ongoing basis to identify emerging risks or material changes in customers financial position, including evaluation of compliance with the loan agreement. Ensures that analyses provide an independent credit quality assessment for existing loans of the Bank’s largest commercial clients identifying credit risks and mitigants, industry concerns, market trends, financial trends, and other pertinent credit issues.
Oversees and manages the continuous commercial credit monitoring (CCM) activities for the segment enabling the timely identification of emerging credit risk so that appropriate actions can be taken to manage the risk, minimize losses and assign an accurate risk rating. A CCM program includes but is not limited to annual reviews (and PLRs and Guarantor Assessments), interim update memos, a covenant monitoring program, problem loan management, early warning indicators, and other forms of credit surveillance.
Partner with and serve as the primary liaison between the segment monitoring unit, Director of Underwriting for segment, segment Senior Management of the Line, and 2nd line Credit functions. This partnership includes business strategy, pipeline and general industry/portfolio trends.
Ensures that all commercial loan analyses provide sufficient details, analytics, and insights necessary for the Bank to make a fully-informed credit decision.
Foster a collaborative team culture and provide direction on training and employee development initiatives.
Partners to develop, update, and maintain the Bank’s standard continuous credit monitoring documents. Look to continuously improve processes.
Responsible for adhering to and advising teams on credit policy. Make recommendations to improve or enhance credit policy.
Active involvement and membership in committees related to the monitoring process as assigned.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Scope of Responsibilities:
The Commercial Credit Portfolio Management Department is responsible for the ongoing monitoring process for the Bank’s commercial loans to ensure timely and accurate credit risk ratings and compliance with both credit policy and loan agreements.
The Department also is responsible for ensuring the accurate completion of the Bank’s risk rating scorecards and all financial statement spreads. The work completed in this capacity is used to evaluate existing relationships to ensure no deterioration in quality. Oversees and manages the commercial loan monitoring process for the segment across the Bank’s entire footprint.
Responsible for both the quality and efficiency of the process, ensuring that resources are deployed appropriately.
Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages a team of managers and a department with 40-100 FTEs. Responsible for the development and direction of staff and the setting and achieving of department objectives.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 13 years relevant experience, inclusive of 6 years of management experience or in lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 17 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 13 years relevant experience, inclusive of 6 years of management experience.
