Job Description : | Job Summary: The Credit Underwriter I provides above average analytical underwriting support for the making of credit decisions at a moderate level of complexity. The Credit Underwriter I may require some guidance from the Credit Underwriting Manager or more experienced Credit Underwriters in performing his or her duties. Listing of Key Responsibilities: (The following responsibilities are performed by the incumbent in the capacity described in the above Job Summary.) Underwrites all consumer and commercial loan requests with TCE between $500m and $1.5mm Analyzes customer’s or potential customer’s financial statements and recommends a risk grade relative to a loan request and provides detailed information including spread sheets on financials, global cash flow, business and project cash flow analysis, leverage ratios including global leverage, business debt to worth, current ratio, quick ratio and loan to value, industry trends, ROE models, exceptions to policy, underwriting guideline exceptions, and any other relevant data regarding a potential loan. Writes full credit memorandum relative to a loan request, history of the business, guarantors, etc. May assist Loan Officers with the sales proposal process including loan structure. Attends Officers’ and Directors’ Loan Committee Meetings when requested. Develops a working knowledge of assigned customers and prospects. Monitors customer performance at loan renewal and evaluates industry trends to determine if current loans continue to be acceptable risks by analyzing financial statements, covenants, appraisals; updating risk ratings. Performs job responsibilities with an understanding of the importance of and in compliance with applicable Bank policies, procedures and processes, as well as applicable external laws and regulations. Represents the Bank in his or her assigned market area by becoming involved in the civic, cultural, charitable and/or educational activities of the community. Trains/assists Credit Underwriters when needed Performs other duties as assigned. Education Required: Undergraduate Degree (preferably in Business, Finance or a Related Field); and formal Commercial Credit Training (sponsored by RMA or equivalent) is preferred. Formal banking training in general would be a plus. Experience Required: 3+ years of credit analysis/underwriting experience. Knowledge and Skills Required: Solid knowledge of analytical techniques required for analyzing and underwriting commercial, business and private banking loans and all applicable laws and regulations relating to these banking fields. Above average credit analysis/underwriting skills are specifically needed to determine the customer needs and credit worthiness. Above average verbal and written communication, organizational, time management and technology user skills are needed. Key Business Relationships: Interacts internally with CCO, Senior Credit Officers, other Credit Underwriters, Operations Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, Loan Operations Manager and staff, County Presidents and other Loan Officers. May be called upon to join Loan Officer’s in interacting externally with existing or prospective customers.
