Please check out the details below to learn more about this position.Position Title:ControllerFLSA:ExemptReport to:SVP Finance/Chief Financial OfficerDept Unit:Finance*General Summary: *The Controller safeguards financial assets by establishing effective and efficient financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.*Key Essential Responsibilities: *Manages the activities of the finance/accounting department to include recruiting, interviewing and recommending qualified applicants, training, scheduling, assigning duties, providing annual performance reviews, and mentoring staff to promote career development. Recommends, documents, and administers employee counseling and disciplinary actions in coordination with Human Resources.Works with the CFO to develop/enhance policies/procedures/processes, and internal controls, ensuring practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization.Manages the short-term investment portfolio, which includes, cash and Fed Funds. Monitors and adjusts the cash position to meet daily liquidity needs and federally mandated reserve requirements.Reviews monthly reports for the Investment Committee.Manages the preparation of Credit Union financial statements, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulations. Creates and prepares, where necessary, management and financial reports for the BOD and sub-committees.Serves on the ALCO to assist management and the BOD to make the best ALM decisions properly balancing the need for earnings and liquidity with risk appetite.Monthly review of the Credit Union’s Allowance for Loan Loss calculation.Organizes the preparation and submission of various external reports including, but not limited to, CT Personal Property Tax Report, NCUA 5300 Report, and Form 945.Approves outgoing wire transfers and signs Credit Union checks as authorized.Oversees the Accounts Payable and Fixed Asset functionsComplete understanding of all general ledger accounts. Reviews general ledger account reconciliations.Assists in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.Acts as a liaison for external and internal audits performed by the DOB, NCUA, and public accountants.Promotes and maintains a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to work effectively with members, co-workers, management and vendors. Demonstrates the Credit Union’s core values of Service, Teamwork, Integrity and Responsibility.Keeps abreast of industry developments including, but not limited to changes in accounting rules, NCUA and DOB regulations and technology.Ensures adherence to company policies and procedures and Banking/Credit Union Regulations.Prepares and tests DNA mappings for new products and existing product enhancements.Promotes and maintains a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to work effectively with members, co-workers, management, and vendors.Keeps abreast of industry developments including, but not limited to changes in regulations and technology.Performs additional duties as required.*Scope: *The Controller works under the direction of the CFO exercising independent judgement and decision making and requires minimal supervision.*Essential Skills, Knowledge and Requirements: *Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or FinanceMinimum of 5 years of supervisory experience within a credit union or bankThorough knowledge of applicable GAAP AccountingBasic understanding of Asset Liability Management (ALM)Understanding of how individual departments affect the Operations of the Credit UnionSuperior analytical, problem-solving, organizational and communication skillsKeen attention to detail with the ability to meet a constant stream of deadlinesProven ability to work independently and collaboratively with different levels of employeesProficient with Microsoft Office as well as Financial Systems softwareKnowledge of Fiserv DNA and Prologue a plus.Job Type: Full-time
