Job Description : Controller is responsible for coordinating, administering, and controlling financial operations. They provide tax, insurance and other reports required by governmental regulations. Controller reviews, analyzes, and interprets financial and budgetary reports. They direct all aspects of accounting operations and preparation of annual financial forecasts. Position oversees the development of financial accounting systems required to maintain reporting requirements. The Controller is a critical part of driving the financial future of the company.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary Daily, Weekly, Monthly Job DutiesCash ManagementProcess electronic bank deposits as neededRecord ACH transactions as neededApprove electronic payments as neededProcess weekly check runs, and any individual/manual checks as neededMonthly bank reconciliationsUpdate ACH Debit block as needed for the approved distributionsBilling/Accounts ReceivableCreate and process service invoices, progress billings, and miscellaneous invoicesCreate lien waivers to accompany billings when requiredTrack A/R Aging and discuss items over 30 days with PM/PresidentAccounts PayableReview AP invoice entry, approve, and post dailyReview/reconcile vendor statements such as Lowe’s, Home Depot, Voyager, Chase, etc.Managing the payment of vendors through review of AP Aging reports and cash receiptsReview invoices for the need to record Sales and Use Tax Accrual, book as neededProcess recurring AP invoices to be paid monthly, this includes rentPayrollReview and approval of payroll in systems after timecard entry on a weekly basisOversee and assist in annual W-2 and 1099 processing as neededMonthly, Quarterly, Annual DutiesInsurancesReview monthly health insurance invoices from VERIS, Sun Life, and AFLAC and enter for paymentReview monthly corporate insurance invoices for accuracy and process for paymentPrepare quarterly builder’s risk reports and submit to HMSAs needed handle work-related injury reporting as well as vehicle incidentsAssist in preparation of annual health insurance renewalsAssist in preparation of annual corporate insurance renewalsPrepare the various reports and submit for the annual Workers’ Comp, General Liability, and Auto policy auditsTaxesQuarterly and/or semi-annual remittance of Sales and Use TaxesAnnual preparation of Mercantile Business Privilege Tax returns for YATBGeneral LedgerMonthly close process, tying down entire balance sheetDepreciation expense, prepaid insurance, interest earned, current portion of LTD, prepaid taxes, bank service fees, monthly management fees, prepaid expense, and over/under billing adjustments all need booked.As needed the intercompany due to/due from will need to be reconciledJob Cost Allocations will need to be booked, typically on a quarterly basis.WIP Schedule needs to be completed monthly using the various reports from Viewpoint.Human ResourcesOn boarding/Off boarding employeesManage employee benefit eligibility and enroll as needed401kPrepare interim top-heavy testing workpapers to be submitted annuallyPrepare annual census for 5500 reportingAnnual TasksOversee the completion of the various required annual reports filed in VA, WV, NJ, etc.Oversee the completion of the various business/contractor licenses to be filedPrepare all PBC workpapers requested by outside accountants for the annual review and tax engagement.Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of 10 years accounting experience with at least three years in a managerial role; public accounting and small business experience preferredBA/BS in accounting and CPA is required and an MBA is a plusStrong knowledge in Account Reconciliation, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll Processes, etc.Technical and comprehensive knowledge of all finance, financial planning, accounting and tax areas of a business including an excellent understanding of GAAPExperience with selecting and implementing account systemsExcellent computer skills including all MS Office applications.
