Job Description : Explains financial responsibilities for services received, payment options and collection procedures to parents/guardians and/or parties responsible for payment of patients receiving services at the Anna Shaw Children’s Institute (ASCI). Acts as a liaison between parents/guardians and/or parties responsible for payment of patients receiving services and the ASCI. Counsels parents/guardians and/or parties responsible for payment of patients receiving services at the ASCI regarding insurance benefits and recommends alternative sources of payment and/or financial assistance when appropriate. Acts as an advocate for the patient with insurance carriers. Assists with the collection of pre-payments. Identifies and resolves issues related to registration, financial clearance, insurance company authorization requirements, billing, government regulations and ASCI policies and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Communication may take place via mail, email or telephone but primarily in person.
Education: Completion of a high school diploma. College level courses preferred.
Licensure: N/A
Experience: 2 to 4 years experience in the field or equivalent experience in a hospital, medical office or customer service setting.
Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers. Must be able to resolve problems independently, with little management oversight. Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions, policies, guidelines and standards. Ability to use good judgment in the absence of formal guidelines, policies or procedures. Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Working knowledge of EMR scheduling and medical A/R software programs, Word, Excel and Power Point preferred. Must be detail oriented and able to demonstrate competence in basic math concepts. Current CPR/BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of hire
