Position Highlights: Recognized leader: Magnet Hospital in the Capital Region Quality of Life: Where career opportunities and quality of life converge Advancement: Strong orientation program, generous tuition allowance and career development Hours: full time Under general supervision, the Financial Counselor is responsible for insurance verification and eligibility, assessment of patient financial requirements, counseling patients on insurance benefits and co-payments. Obtain pre-authorization of services. Fulfill payor requests for documentation. Obtain and maintains accurate records and documentation of all processes. Perform periodic tracking and audit of the accuracy and completeness of charge entry and transfer and addressing denials. Represent Cancer Care at Denials Committee and other billing meetings. The Financial Counselor assists patients to apply for alternative payment programs and establishes payment plans or other financial arrangements. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent – Associate Degree in Human Services or Healthcare Administration preferredMinimum three (3) years of medical business office experience with insurance procedures and patient interaction.Knowledge of Medical TerminologyThorough understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, HMO’s, PPO’s and private insurance coverage. ICD-9 and CPT knowledge. Two or more years of Medical/Business Office experience preferredKnowledge of General and Cancer-Related Assistance Programs.Excellent customer service skillsExcellent organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize tasks and accomplish goalsAbility to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment. Ability to effectively communicate using telephone, fax, email and general mail correspondence.
