Job Description : PURPOSE: The President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is a strategic, visionary, and relationship-driven executive who has the courage to see beyond the today, align multiple stakeholders and consistently achieve results that know no boundaries. The CEO is tasked with mapping a 21st Century future that strongly connects to and supports the organization’s Mission, Vision and Values. S/he must have a proven nonprofit track record of strong growth, brand development and donor engagement and solicitation. The position is the key management leader, public spokesperson and staff coach.The CEO is responsible for carrying out the humanitarian mission of the organization, as overseen by a Board of Directors, and in ensuring proper and compliant implementation and development of policies and procedures and day-to-day affairs of the organization. Current location is in Goleta, California, just north of Santa Barbara. Open to location within the United States with regular travel to Goleta, California.SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Sets a long-term vision for the organization that is aligned with, and in support of, the Mission, Vision and Values.Partners with the board of directors and key committees, to assist in formulating matters of policy and interpretation, financial considerations, and in setting out measurable goals for the organization and this position.Participates in formulating achievable and stretch goals for the development program, actively taking a lead in donor relationships and effective solicitation, always modeling strong donor communication.Communicates regularly and openly with staff and volunteers, adopting a collaborative and open style.Quickly builds relationships with existing and new international partners, affiliated medical teams, corporations, foundations, and individuals to support a growing network of resources to bring the vision to life.Serves as an outcome-driven leader, cognizant of the cost-per-dollar-raised ratio at all times, and the organization’s responsibility to and transparency with its donors.Oversees an annual communications plan, leading public interactions and information on behalf of the organization.Supports/creates an organizational infrastructure that is cost-efficient, effective, creative and capable of supporting the organization’s Mission, Vision and Values.Develops and reviews reports to acquire understanding of the organization’s performance results across a wide range of balanced measures (e.g. financial results, the organization’s contributions to international and US eye health outcomes, and conducts staff training, sets standards of behavior and communication, exhibits skill at problem-solving and crisis management, if needed.Oversees annual, multi-year budgets and forecasting.Attends and presents at Board and Committee meetings.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Leader: Oversees all hires, terminations, and performance reviews. Three direct reports: VP – Finance and Administration, VP – Programs, VP/Chief Development Officer.EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum seven (7) years of progressively successful leadership experience leading a team and managing people. Must have five (5) years of nonprofit experience as CEO or other externally-facing senior management level position. Proven track record of individual donor engagement and solicitation, foundation, and corporate key level relationship-building; pharmaceutical relationships and experience a plus. Experience working with physicians in a health care organization would be seen as important, but not essential.Experience in developing high-level organizational growth strategies and plan implementation. Experience in achieving sustainable improvements to public health outcomes would be highly desirable.EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration or a related field from an accredited institution.DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIRED: Valid California driver’s license within thirty days of start date.KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: Strong understanding of finance and measures of performance.In-depth knowledge of nonprofit governance principles and organizational best practices.Well-versed in donor acquisition and stewardship.Basic understanding of digital marketing tactics and tools.ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: Ability to successfully fundraise, particularly with national and statewide sources, from individuals, corporations, and foundations.Outstanding organization and leadership abilities.Superb community relations and partnership skills.Excellent English communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills.
