JOB SUMMARY
Working under moderate supervision, conducts and documents moderate to complex financial analysis,
financial reporting and ad hoc finance projects. Aids organization with financial functions, such as
assessing, auditing, planning, budgeting, taxes, consolidation, cost control, and project control. Leads
special projects and other assigned initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluates and analyzes a variety of financial results and indicators such as capital expenditures,
depreciation, proposals, investment opportunities, rate of return, profit plans, operating records, financial statements, etc. requiring advanced expertise.
Compiles budgetary and fiscal data received from assigned departments to prepare revenue
balance statements and historical comparisons of departmental expenditures with requested
appropriations.
Completes complex analysis of records of present and past operations, trends and costs, estimated and
realized revenues, administrative commitments, and obligations incurred to project future revenues and
expenses.
Conducts special studies as assigned to support senior management. Develops presentations of findings
and results.
Advises management on matters, such as effective use of resources and assumptions underlying budget
forecasts. Interprets budgets to management.
Prepares reports analyzing specific aspects of department structures, functions and operational
procedures and recommends ways to improve efficiency and/or effectiveness.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Overview:
Provide answers to questions from leadership by finding the right data and conducting analysis
Document processes and procedures, develop effective and user-friendly training materials, and provide technical support and training to others.
Test and validate data and dashboards.
Aggregate data from multiple sources including dashboards and financial systems.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Research/Analysis/Validation
Analyze reports and dashboards to look for trends/patterns/insight and provide summaries/screenshots.
Validate data and do general QA and testing on the dashboards.
Research for clients, geocoding data for new locations, etc.
Retrieve and organize data
Evaluate and analyze a variety of financial results and indicators
Use facts and data to recommend actions that may be taken to improve financial results
Prepare reports and presentations
Ad hoc requests as needed.
Communication with Partners:
Conduct dashboard training, answer questions, and help increase adoption and usage of dashboards.
Meet with partners to share updates, get feedback, and help facilitate troubleshooting and enhancement of dashboards.
Power BI:
Use Power BI for troubleshooting to look for missing or problematic data.
Help update and organize user access/permissions.
Excel:
Refresh existing dashboards and lookup tables.
Data preparation for analysis.
Restructure/Reformat raw data.
Data analysis.
PDF/PowerPoint:
Make screenshots of the dashboard and create an optimized PDF document or PPT presentation
Enterprise Systems:
Some work with core financial systems as a user may be involved, including extracting data from OBIEE (Oracle) or using existing OBIEE dashboards to find and analyze information (not programming).
Some work with IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) as a user may be involved including pulling data from TM1 or validating/checking dashboard data against TM1 (not programming).
The ideal candidate should be reliable, have great attention to detail, and meet these qualifications:
Required technical skills:
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Ability to navigate large data sets and analyze data, to identify patterns and uncover actionable insights/trends.
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret financial information and the ability to accurately explain/report activity in verbal and written communications. Requires intermediate analytical skills.
Preferred but not mandatory technical skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI
Familiarity with Alteryx
Experience using TM1 front end (not programming)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. May lead project teams and/or plan staff
assignments. Duties may encompass technical guidance and/or training of co-workers as well as policy
development and participation in special initiatives such as modeling, system implementations or
acquisition integrations. May coordinate and assign tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project.
