Job Description : Summary
Works with the Rivermark branch network and individual professional network to develop and maintain business relationships. Develops prospects to market a broad range of business products and services, focusing on mid-sized business relationships with loans primarily between $100,000 and $1,000,000. Contributes to the growth of business loans by $2 million annually, and the growth of business deposit balances by $1 million annually.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Business Development – Proactively meets with business owners to develop relationships based upon trust to grow Rivermark’s business membership program. Prequalifies members for lending needs and advises/negotiates appropriate business loan structure, pricing and terms working with the Business Services Management.
Branch Network – Builds and maintains business relationships with branch business advocates and branch management to build confidence and develop cross referral opportunities. Makes joint calling efforts and business site visits with other members of the business banking team, Business Advocates and Branch Managers.
Borrower Risk Analysis – Evaluates and interprets credit risk related to borrowers, including, but not limited to: management/business history, primary and secondary sources of repayment, environmental issues, industry risks, tax returns and financial statements.
Portfolio Administration – Works alongside Credit Administration to ensure timely and thorough monitoring of borrower’s operating trends. Requests updated business financial documentation as needed to aide in proactive periodic reviews.
Responds to member, branch, and Contact Center inquiries regarding our Business Services program, including, but not limited to quoting rates and terms and determining the appropriate documentation needed to process a request.
Acts as the subject matter expert for small business lending at the Credit Union. Assists in developing, coordinating, and supplementing ongoing training to the branch network, including Business Advocates, small business lending, business entity structure, and business depository products.
Works cooperatively with Credit Administration in preparing thorough borrower analysis, including, but not limited to balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements and property evaluations.
Identifies and analyzes potential loan markets to develop prospects for business relationships. Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and cycles. Proactively manages relationships and monitors risk within assigned portfolio. Consults with businesses and conducts site visits.
Prepares written and oral reports and makes presentations as necessary.
Ensures adherence to sound analysis and lending practices. Maintains compliance with team, Credit Union and government-regulated audit requirements.
Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred, including course work in accounting or finance. Minimum two years of small business lending experience in a financial institution.

Ability to work flexible business hours, including evening and weekends to attend and/or represent Rivermark at business events.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work under pressure.
Knowledge and understanding of the Credit Union’s products, services and Loan Policy, along with proven general knowledge of the federal and state laws and regulations that govern business lending.
Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as a team player.
Ability to exercise independent judgment. Exceptional problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail. Aligned credit appetite with credit union’s philosophy.
Proven advanced analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex or diverse information and collect and research data. Ability to read and interpret complicated financial and business documents and determine potential risk.
Effective loan interviewing techniques, negotiations and sales skills.
Professional written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with the business market within the major cities located within our service area.
Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office software.
