Summary:
The Credit Portfolio Manager position will report to the Credit Portfolio Manager Team Lead and will work closely with the Relationship Managers. They will be responsible for monitoring on a timely basis the ongoing financial health of the loan portfolio ( C&I focused) and borrowers while maintaining the ongoing communication and dialogue with clients in conjunction with the Relationship Manager for all credit related reporting and business updates.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead transaction specific structuring and underwriting processes designed to facilitate prudent loan growth consistent with the Bank’s risk parameters and the Bank’s focus on exceptional relationship management;
Underwrite new prospective deals as well as existing complex renewals and increases for existing clients;
Participate in Deal Team prospective client meetings and term sheet development discussions with the intent of proactively identifying structural elements intended to facilitate a successful underwriting;
Identify applicable Key Risks associated with potential lending opportunities;
Identify factors which mitigate Key Risks or recommend structural enhancements which mitigate Key Risks;
Identify sources and uses associated with transactions;
Identify appropriate covenants for each transaction;
Clearly link Key Risks to recommended internal Probability of Default based Risk Ratings;
Perform the required analysis and produce the credit presentation in accordance with guidelines and policy while ensuring timely completion of the underwriting;
Sign the credit presentation with direct responsibility for its content. Ensure accurate completion of underwriting packages.
Responsible for timely renewals of his assigned portfolio.
Maintain oversight of all ongoing monitoring requirements and client deliverables as well as compliance with all terms of the loan agreement including (i) Financial Reporting and Covenant Tracking, (ii) Covenant Compliance, (iii) Collateral Monitoring and Borrowing Base Analysis, and (iv) all required third party reports, investigations, and diligence. Determines account monitoring needs working with the Relationship Managers during the underwriting process. In coordination with the business teams, maintains direct contact with clients as needed for account monitoring.
Prepares an interim Credit Monitoring Report at required intervals as well as an Annual Review of certain relationships as required.
Completes the annual risk rating evaluation as required with input from Relationship Managers on qualitative factors.
Prepares all required quarterly reports and analysis including Sensitive Meeting Reports and Problem Loan Reports as well as other portfolio management reports as required.
Participate in special projects and requests related to the management of the portfolio and business development/sales effectiveness initiatives
Maintain existing Client credit files (content and physical copies) and functions as the point person for the Region on content related to Loan Review and Audit.
Identify potential relationship expanding opportunities and notifies the RM accordingly.
Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and directly related experience.
2+ years of banking experience with a minimum of 2+ years of direct underwriting/portfolio management experience within the commercial banking space.
Has strong understanding of credit policy and procedures and is able to accurately risk-rate loans/credits, evaluates both cash-flow and collateral-based loans/credits.
Experience with loan structuring and the legal documentation process.
What Success Looks Like For Someone In This Role
3 months: Know all the existing clients you’d support (meet the clients), assess financial statements, covenant and borrowing base requirements.
6 months: Help with the closing of 1-3 new transactions, ensuring timely receipt of required financial statements, borrowing base certificates and covenant compliance of supported customers. Ensure credits are renewed in a timely manner. Ensure credits are risk related properly based on recent financial reporting. Weekly independently as a contributing member of the team.
12 months: Mastery of bank processes and contributing to special projects. Partnering with Relationship Managers with complex renewals and assessing new prospects.
