Job Description : The mission of the Finance Department at the ASPCA is to execute our strategic financial plan that directly impacts our mission to ensure animals live good lives: valued by society, protected by its laws, and free from cruelty, pain and suffering.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working closely with the Vice President of Finance, the Finance Manager, Capital Projects plays a critical role partnering with real estate and capital projects staff and programmatic departments to ensure proper financial management of the ASPCA’s major capital projects.
As a key financial advisor to real estate and capital projects staff, the person in this role will be responsible for supporting capital project budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting, and performing a wide range of ad-hoc project-related financial analyses. Support provided by the Finance Manager, Capital Projects will help ensure that ASPCA resources are optimally employed to improve the lives of animals.
The Finance Manager is both a people-oriented customer support role which communicates and collaborates frequently with a diverse group of real estate and program staff and a detail-oriented financial role which develops and maintains Excel spreadsheets, performs financial reporting, processes capital invoices, and prepares and delivers presentations.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Budgeting, Forecasting, & Analysis (60%)
Support preparation of project budgets and monthly forecast updates for the ASPCA’s major capital projects
Provide feedback to real estate and program staff, understand and challenge budget and forecast assumptions, follow up on question responses and information requests, and serve as link between Real Estate and Finance teams
Run Workday reports to obtain actual project capital spending and operational expense spending. Analyze spending data to understand variances vs. budgets and targets
Share reporting and actionable insights with ASPCA’s financial leadership team and capital project execution teams
Partnering with Real Estate & Capital Projects and Program Staff (30%)
Establish effective partnerships with key real estate and program stakeholders across the ASPCA and become an integrated member of project execution teams
Coach and educate real estate and program staff to improve financial acumen/discipline and enable data-based decision-making
Make financial data accessible and simple for non-financial staff to understand, through reporting, training, and ongoing communication and collaboration
Attend project meetings to understand financial support requirements, add financial insight to discussions, and present and explain financial results
Invoice Processing & Management (10%)
Receive, review and enter capital project-related invoices in Workday, ensuring compliance with contract documents
Ensure correct accounting coding to allow spending tracking against project capital and operating expense budgets
Ownership of financial aspects of contractor closeout process
Other tasks and projects as assigned by VP, Real Estate and Capital Projects and VP, Financial Planning & Analysis

Additional Information:
Position can be performed remotely from a home office with up to 60% of work required to be performed onsite at the NYC 8Th Avenue office (up to three days per week), as needed
Position may require occasional travel to other ASPCA facilities and for training/conferences; less than 10%
Qualifications:
Highly flexible and adaptable with organizational growth and changing needs/requirements, Highly organized and able to multi-task and manage competing demands and priorities, Highly proficient in financial analysis and model building, Interest in animal welfare field is required; prior work experience in NGO/non-profit sector is not required. Volunteer experience in animal welfare will be beneficial, Must be able to independently manage complex tasks and report to leadership upon completion of tasks, or when specific guidance is required, Must be able to manage detailed work in Excel, including creating and managing project budgets and forecasts to help real estate and capital project staff accurately plan project expenses, Must be able to work in a stationary position and repetitively use hands for 8+ hours each day, Proactive self-starter with well-developed problem-solving skills, including investigating and explaining variances vs. prior budgets and forecasts, Strong communication skills, including ability to communicate clearly and concisely and translate complex financial concepts for non-financial staff, including providing training, Strong customer service orientation with capability to build lasting stakeholder relationships

Education and Work Experience:
At least 3 years of experience managing complex capital project budgets and forecasts, At least 5 years of professional experience in Financial Analysis, Experience using Workday Financials is preferred, High School Diploma or GED and Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience (required); Master’s degree (preferred). Accounting or finance degrees preferred, Must have experience problem solving and managing budgets independently, as well as experience successfully collaborating as a team member
