We are looking for a sharp, ambitious, and enthusiastic financial counselor to join us. The successful candidate is someone who is passionate about working in a care team model with personal responsibility for informing patient of their financial responsibility, works with health insurance providers to determine coverage for patient.
What You’ll Do:
Works with health insurance providers to determine coverage and benefit limits for surgical procedures, in order to estimate patient’s responsibility.
Informs the patient of their financial responsibility prior to surgery.
Promotes CareCredit as an option to pay for outstanding debt.
Establishes acceptable payment arrangements with patients, including outstanding balances for all services rendered by the group.
Prepares financial agreement, obtaining patient’s signature, and scan’s into patient electronic medical record.
For verbal financial agreements, Financial Counselor will prepare written agreement and retain until patient’s next scheduled visit to administer.
Note in appointment record for Reception Specialist(s) to contact you upon patient’s arrival in order to administer the Financial Agreement; once signature is obtained – scan in to patient electronic medical record.
Create payment plan in Athena for all secured repayment agreements (documenting the detail financial agreement terms).
Completes Financial Counselor Collection Report to document all daily activity. Sends report to Supervisor each Monday.
Covers patient account collections efforts in co-worker’s absence.
Maintains a positive working relationship with physician staff, reception specialists, insurance companies, funding program representatives, and other financial counselors.
Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively.
Maintains professional composure while performing direct patient collections efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
What You’ll Need:
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within realm of responsibility.
Computer literate a must as this position utilizes an automated practice management system.
Ability to be compassionate but firm in collections efforts. Ability to negotiate repayment terms with patients..
Other duties as assigned as necessary and may vary at times, as needed, by your immediate supervisor or as directed by the company.
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other equipment.
